Two techies from India and Pakistan built an AI startup - Now both are billionaires thanks to Elon Musk. Here's all about Aman Sanger and Sualeh Asif

A young Indian entrepreneur and a Pakistani mathematician-turned-tech founder have joined the ranks of billionaires after Elon Musk's reported acquisition of Anysphere, the company behind the popular AI coding assistant Cursor, in a deal valued at $60 billion.

India-born Aman Sanger, 25, and Pakistan's Sualeh Asif, 26, are expected to receive around $2.7 billion each from the transaction, which has catapulted them into the global spotlight.

Sanger co-founded Cursor in 2022 along with fellow Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) students Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, and Arvid Lunnemark. What started as a university project has evolved into one of Silicon Valley's fastest-growing artificial intelligence companies.


Cursor's AI-powered coding platform is now used by millions of developers across nearly 50,000 companies worldwide, including major technology firms such as Nvidia, Adobe, Uber, Shopify, and PayPal. The company says it has crossed $1 billion in annualised revenue, making it one of the fastest-growing businesses in the AI sector.

The startup specializes in AI-driven coding tools that help automate software development. According to company data previously shared with Reuters, Cursor has rapidly expanded its operations, generating approximately $2.6 billion in annualised enterprise revenue.

Who is Aman Sanger?

At just 25 years old, Aman Sanger has emerged as one of the youngest billionaires in the AI industry following the success of Cursor.

Born in the United States to Indian immigrant parents, Sanger grew up in an environment that emphasized education, entrepreneurship, and professional achievement. His father, Arvind Sanger, is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and later founded Geosphere Capital, an investment firm focused on natural resources, industrial sectors, and Indian equities.

His mother, Shilpa Sanger, was raised in Mumbai and built a career spanning healthcare, entrepreneurship, and startup investing. Trained as an orthodontist, she later became an entrepreneur and angel investor.

Inspired by his family's entrepreneurial background, Sanger began coding at the age of 14. He later enrolled at MIT, where he studied computer science from 2018 to 2022. During his time at the university, he was also an active squash player and participated in athletics.

Before co-founding Cursor, Sanger completed internships at Google and Bridgewater Associates. He also launched his own AI consulting venture before joining forces with his future co-founders to build the AI startup.

Who is Sualeh Asif?

Sualeh Asif, originally from Karachi, Pakistan, has a strong academic background in mathematics and computer science. According to Forbes, he represented Pakistan at the International Mathematical Olympiad from 2016 to 2018, showcasing his talent in competitive mathematics from an early age.

While in college, Asif founded an AI-powered search engine startup, demonstrating his interest in artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship long before the launch of Cursor.

His collaboration with fellow MIT students eventually led to the creation of Cursor, which has become one of the most widely used AI coding tools in the world and helped make him one of the youngest billionaires in the technology industry.
