A unanimous decision by the Film Federation of India's 16-member jury propelled the Malayalam film into the global spotlight. Among the 22 titles vying for the prestigious Oscar slot were notable Hindi films such as "The Kerala Story," "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani," "Gadar 2," "Zwigato," "The Vaccine War," and "Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway," as well as regional gems like "Balagam" (Telugu), "Vaalvi" (Marathi), "Baaplyok" (Marathi), and "August 16, 1947" (Tamil). However, the jury's unanimous choice was the Jude Anthany Joseph-directed movie, '2018.'
