The sea throws back what you throw in. People in Mumbai realised that when they woke up to see the Mahim beach littered with mounds of plastic that were washed ashore.

A video of the shocking scene was posted to Twitter by MumbaiMatterz, a handle which regularly shares civic matters concerning the city.

The visuals were disturbing. People can be seen sitting, standing walking and even clicking selfies among the thousands of plastic bottles and pieces of plastic waste the sea brought to the shore.

"Beaches in Mumbai now Open.Citizens throng Mahim beach to have a look at the Return Gift from Arabian Sea," the post said.

The video has been viewed close to one lakh times by Tuesday evening. The video left netizens concerned "@mybmc needs to do something on a war footing. This is just not acceptable..year after year (sic) said a user. Another one countered "It's not always that bmc will do... The point is this was the garbage thrown by "us" in the ocean. Nature has just given back..(sic)".

"Never mess with nature, the sea, the forest, trees. Nature always gives a fitting reply. Sea never keeps any dirt in it. It also always throws away the dead," another user summed up.
