When 'Thallumaala' movie promo event led to dangerous overcrowding: See videos

It happened at the promotional event of the Malayalam movie 'Thallumala' at the HiLITE Mall in Kozhikode.

It wasn't yet the release of the movie, it was just its promotional event. But it had to be wrapped up prematurely following an extraordinary turnout of fans who threatened to swamp the venue.

It happened at the promotional event of the Malayalam movie 'Thallumala' at the HiLITE Mall in Kozhikode. Thallumaala (Chain of Fights), an action comedy film directed by Khalid Rahman, has popular star Tovino Thomas and Kalyani Priyadarshan playing the lead roles.

The crowds which gathered at the mall left not even a spare inch on the floors, and even crowded the escalators, prompting the organisers to call an early end.

"We never anticipated such a crowd in the mall. I wasn't sure of coming back alive. Thank you Kozhikode for all the love," Tovino said later on his Instagram live. He did however interact with the crowds for a while.

Video clips from the malls showed jam-packed floors and people jostling to make space. Many pointed out that it was a dangerous exercise.

When the crowds emptied it caused traffic snarls in all the nearby roads.

The film's trailer and music have already become a hit among the audience. The colourful poster and its teaser suggest Thallumaala is the story of an internet celebrity and a vlogger.

Thallumaala released in theatres on August 12.
