When second slip floors a catch and gifts five runs: Watch

It happened during the ongoing County Championship match between Essex and Surrey at the Kia Oval.

It's the kind of thing which makes a bowler doubly livid: a slip fielder not only dropping a catch, but also conceding five runs for it.

It happened during the ongoing County Championship match between Essex and Surrey at the Kia Oval. Essex pacer Jamie Porter pitched one up to Surrey batter Ollie Pope outside his off stump. Pope went for a drive, and the ball caught a thickish edge and flew to the left of second slip, who dived for it but couldn't hold on.

Not just that, the ball bounced off his hands and hit the helmet kept behind the wicketkeeper. Five runs to the batsman. It's a different thing that Pope didn't survive long after that life.

At the end of day 2 of the LV=Insurance County Championship match Surrey had the upper hand with Essex still 29 behind with eight second innings wickets in hand. Surrey got to 319 in the first innings , thanks to a superb 150 by Jack Wills.
