When MS Dhoni got a job offer of Rs 1.7 lakh per month

Former Indian Premier League (IPL) head, Lalit Modi has shared an old appointment letter of cricketer MS Dhoni. As per the letter, the former Indian cricket team captain was offered the job of Vice-President (Marketing) in July 2012.

Reportedly, the former owners of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), India Cements, offered the job to Dhoni in its head office in Chennai.

Lalit Modi, while sharing the letter in an Instagram post, also slammed Indian Cements owner N Srinivasan for disrespecting Dhoni.


"It seems only in India, contempt after contempt continues by the old guards of BCCI. How? My best guess is northblock. But most puzzling is this employment contract of MSD - WHY? he earns 100's of crores a year will he agree to be SRINI'S employee. bet there are many such contracts," wrote Modi in the post.

Reportedly, Dhoni (who is fondly called Mahi) got this offer when he was retained by CSK for Rs 8.82 crore.

In the appointment letter, Dhoni was offered a monthly salary of Rs 43,000, with a Dearness Allowance of Rs 21,970 and a Special Pay of Rs 20,000. Besides, he was offered an enhanced HRA of Rs. 20,400 while stationed in Chennai, a special HRA of Rs. 8,400 per month if in Chennai and Rs. 8,000/month if outside, a special allowance of Rs. 60,000 per month, and finally education and newspaper expenses of Rs. 175.

The total salary was around Rs. 1.7 lakh per month.

Though it is not meagre by any standard for the majority of Indian households, it was certainly peanuts for Dhoni, who earns around Rs 100 crore a year.

The cricketer now has a net worth of around Rs 1040 crore and earns a salary of Rs 15 crore per season from CSK. As per reports, Dhoni's per match salary in IPL 2023 was estimated to be around Rs 85.71 lakhs.
