The fierce fight between Maa Durga and Mahishasura lasted for ten days and on tenth day Maa Durga killed Mahishasura. The day is celebrated as Vijaya Dashami, symbolising the victory of good over evil.
Durga Puja is one of the most important festivals of Hindus, in which devotees worship Godess Durga. The five-day festival celebrates Goddess Durga's victory over the demon king Mahishasura. The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm in states like Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, Bihar and Jharkhand. It is believed that the Goddess Durga visits Earth during these five days to bless her devotees.

When is Durga Puja 2022?
The five-day Durga Puja celebrations start on the sixth day of Navratri (Sasthi) and ends with Vijaya Dashami (on Dusserha). This year, the sixth day of Navratri is falling on October 1 and Vijayadashami is on October 5. The celebrations will start in full swing from October 1. Devotees decorates big pandals across the country and idols of Goddess Durga is unveiled on October 1. As per the traditions, drums, known as Dhaak, are also banged on this day.


Durga Puja 2022 Shubh Muhurat, Puja timings:
The important Bilva Nimantran tithi will last from 3:45 pm to 06:07 pm on Saturday, October 1.

Maha Shashti October 1: Start at 10:34 pm on September 30 and ends at 08:46 pm on October 01.

Maha Saptami - Sunday, October 2: Start: 08:46 pm on October 1; End: 06:47 pm October 02

Maha Ashtami October 3

Shubh muhurat for puja will start at 06:47 pm on October 02 and end at 04:37 pm on October 03.

Maha Navami will fall on October 4.

Durga Puja History:
According to Hindu mythology, the demon king Mahishasura got a boon from Lord Brahma that no man or God could kill him, however, a woman could kill him. Blessed with this boon, Mahishasura defeated the Gods and chased them out of heaven. To end the terror, all the gods including Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, created Maa Durga.
