Last year, a leopard was seen in Bengaluru's densly populated NICE area as well.

Uttarakhand has also reported several incients of leopards attacking humans in the recent past, prompting the state govt to issue safety guidelines.

In an advisory issued by the state forest department on Wednesday, people have been urged to exercise caution while venturing into forests with wildlife. The advisory emphasizes the importance of traveling in groups rather than alone when passing through these areas. It also highlights the need for extreme caution if any wild animal is detected.

The advisory states that individuals should only enter such areas when absolutely necessary, particularly between sunset and sunrise. It also encourages children to travel to school in groups and advises carrying a stick while traversing forested areas. In the event of encountering wild animals, the advisory advises maintaining a safe distance and refraining from approaching or taking photos of them. Special care should be taken if any wild animal is accompanied by its offspring. The advisory also recommends regular pruning of bushes around cowsheds, toilets, and houses, as well as ensuring adequate lighting arrangements.

These precautions are deemed essential, especially during the rainy season and foggy winter months, as wild animals tend to seek shelter near human settlements, increasing the likelihood of accidental encounters. People are also advised against littering around their homes or on the roads. It is important to make proper arrangements for regular garbage disposal, as wild animals are attracted to easily accessible food, further increasing the chances of encounters with humans.
