The big reptile was spotted by a passenger after the KSRTC bus travelled a few kilometres from Chikkaballapura at 3pm on Saturday.
The driver immediately stopped the bus and asked all the 35 passengers in it to quietly vacate the bus without panicking.
He then informed officials about the incident and a local snake charmer, Pruthvi Raj, was called for.
After searching for a hour and half, Raj located the poisonous snake hiding near the headlight box of the bus.
He then caught the cobra using clamp-like device, and set the five-year-old reptile free at a forest nearby.
