WhatsApp reportedly developing short video message feature for iOS

WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature that will allow its users to record and share short video messages, but prevent them from saving or forwarding to other contacts.

IANSHINDI
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature that will allow its 2.24 billion users to record and share short video messages of up to 60 seconds within their chats. However, unlike long-format videos on the app, this feature will prevent users from saving or forwarding the video messages to other contacts, who were not part of the original conversation. The feature is currently in development on the latest iOS beta version of the app and will be end-to-end encrypted, meaning it will be safeguarded from even being seen by WhatsApp and its parent company, Meta. When the feature will launch is not yet known.

WhatsApp is also developing a feature that will let users specify an expiration date for group chats and recoup storage space in addition to the ability to share brief videos.

Being one of the most used social networking platforms in the world, WhatsApp keeps testing and adding newer features to the platform.

However, both WhatsApp and Meta have been facing scrutiny over user data protection. In India, Hyderabad's Cyberabad Police recently discovered a major security breach involving the private details of WhatsApp and Meta users. As many as 1.2 crore WhatsApp users and 17 lakh Facebook users were targeted in the data theft, and an investigation is currently underway.

WhatsApp is working on new features to improve its platform, but its parent company, Meta, will need to address concerns over data protection in order to maintain users' trust.
