In the middle of the Covid crisis, a WhatsApp message has been spreading that claims the newly identified XBB subvariant of Omicron is five times more virulent and has a greater fatality rate than the Delta variant. It also advises that its symptoms differ greatly from those of other sub variants.
The Union Health Ministry has labelled this WhatsApp communication as fraudulent and deceptive. It is not recommended that people believe it or spread it.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), existing statistics do not indicate that XBB is more fatal than Omicron, which is less harmful than the Delta version.
According to a survey done in November 2022, debunking assertions that the XBB form is more lethal or produces more severe Covid-19 than the Delta type.
