Old pillow covers often end up in a cupboard or get thrown away once they become faded, worn out or no longer match your bedding. Instead of discarding them, you can give them a practical second life with a few simple DIY ideas. From reusable cleaning cloths to storage pouches, here are five easy ways to repurpose old pillow covers at home.

1. Turn them into reusable cleaning cloths

If the pillow cover is made from soft cotton or another absorbent fabric, cut it into smaller pieces and use them as cleaning cloths. They can be useful for wiping tables, shelves, mirrors, kitchen surfaces and other areas around the house.

Wash the fabric before cutting it and hem the edges if you want the pieces to last longer.

2. Make a simple storage pouch

An old pillow cover can be turned into a basic pouch for storing small household items. Cut and stitch the fabric into a smaller rectangular shape and add a zip, buttons or drawstring at the top.

Use these pouches to keep charging cables, hair accessories, sewing supplies, craft materials or other small items organised.

3. Create a reusable grocery bag

Larger pillow covers can be repurposed into lightweight reusable bags. Cut off the closed end if required, reinforce the seams and attach two sturdy fabric strips as handles.
