Weather updates, October 21: IMD forecasts heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh; check state-wise list

Heavy rain is expected to continue across several parts of India through October 26, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from October 20 to 22. Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are also expected to experience periods of heavy rain, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely in several regions.

The forecast covers different weather conditions across the country, from widespread rainfall in parts of southern India and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to isolated showers in central, eastern, northeastern and northwestern states. Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely from October 20 to 26. Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast from October 20 to 24.


Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph, are likely from October 20 to 22. Stronger gusts of 40-50 kmph, reaching 60 kmph, are expected from October 23 to 26.

Andhra Pradesh

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, along with Rayalaseema, are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 20 to 26. Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast in both regions on October 20 and 21.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, with gusts reaching 50 kmph, are likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from October 20 to 22, and over Rayalaseema from October 20 to 23.

Chandigarh

Isolated to scattered rainfall is forecast on October 24 and 25.

Karnataka

Rainfall is expected across coastal, south interior and north interior parts of Karnataka at different times during the forecast period.

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka from October 22 to 24. Isolated to scattered rainfall is forecast in these regions from October 20 to 21 and again from October 25 to 26. North Interior Karnataka is likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 22 to 25.

Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast over Coastal Karnataka on October 20 and 24, and over South Interior Karnataka from October 21 to 24.

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely across Kerala and Mahe from October 20 to 26. Isolated heavy rainfall is also forecast throughout the same period.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph, are likely from October 20 to 24.

Ladakh

Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely from October 23 to 25.

Lakshadweep

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected from October 20 to 26. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely from October 22 to 26.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, with gusts reaching 50 kmph, are forecast from October 20 to 24.

Madhya Pradesh

West Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 20 to 23, while East Madhya Pradesh is expected to experience similar conditions from October 20 to 21.

Konkan and Goa, along with Madhya Maharashtra, are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 20 to 23. Marathwada is expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall on October 20 and 21.
