Weather Update today
India is seeing dramatic weather this week with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave conditions across several northern and central regions. On the other hand, the IMD has predicted rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in the hilly regions. Rainfall has been forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Chandigarh from today. Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan will also get relief from extreme heatwave conditions as IMD has predicted rainfall from April 28.

Thunderstorms in Haryana, Delhi

-Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi (Apr 27–30 & May 2–3)

-Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kmph, gusting to 70 kmph, are likely over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Apr 28–29.


-Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) is likely over Jammu & Kashmir (Apr 27–29), Himachal Pradesh (Apr 28–30 & May 3) and Uttarakhand (Apr 28–May 3).

-Isolated hailstorms are expected over Jammu & Kashmir (Apr 28) and Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand (Apr 28–29).

Rainfall in Bengal, Bihar today

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30–50 kmph) is likely over West Bengal & Sikkim over the next seven days.

Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms is expected over Bihar and Odisha (Apr 27–May 1).

Thundersqualls (50–60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) are likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim (Apr 27), Gangetic West Bengal (Apr 27–30), Bihar (Apr 28) and Jharkhand (Apr 27–30).

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar (Apr 28), Gangetic West Bengal (Apr 29–30) and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim (Apr 27–May 2), with very heavy rainfall on Apr 30.

Isolated hailstorms are expected over Jharkhand (Apr 27 & 30).

Northeast weather forecast

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30–50 kmph) is likely across the region over the next five days.

Thundersqualls (50–60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) are likely over Assam & Meghalaya (Apr 27) and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura (Apr 27–28).

Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya (Apr 27–May 2) and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura (Apr 27–May 1).

Very heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh (Apr 30–May 2) and Assam & Meghalaya (Apr 27–30).

What about MP, Maharashtra?

Isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) is likely over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh over the next five days.

Lightning activity is expected over Vidarbha on Apr 27 and again from Apr 29 to May 1.

Thundersqualls (50–60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) are likely over Chhattisgarh from Apr 29 to May 1.

A look at Kerala, Tamil Nadu weather

Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30–50 kmph) is likely over South Interior Karnataka (Apr 27–28), Kerala & Mahe, Telangana and North Interior Karnataka (Apr 27–May 1), and Coastal Andhra Pradesh (Apr 28–May 1).

Lightning activity is also likely over Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema (Apr 28–May 1).

Heavy rainfall is expected over South Interior Karnataka (Apr 30), Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal (Apr 30–May 2), and Kerala & Mahe (Apr 29–May 1).

Isolated hailstorms are likely over North Interior Karnataka (Apr 28–30) and South Interior Karnataka (Apr 29–30).
