IMD Weather Update for July 7
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather update for Tuesday, July 7, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several parts of the country as the southwest monsoon remains active. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected in many regions over the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD, a depression over Jharkhand and adjoining north interior Odisha is likely to move northwestwards across Jharkhand, north Chhattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh, bringing widespread rainfall to several states.

Southwest monsoon likely to advance further

The IMD said conditions remain favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into more parts of the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, the remaining areas of Haryana and Punjab, and parts of Rajasthan over the next three days.


Which states are likely to receive heavy rain on July 7?

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over several regions on July 7, including:
  1. Himachal Pradesh
  2. Uttarakhand
  3. Punjab
  4. Haryana
  5. Delhi
  6. East Uttar Pradesh
  7. West Rajasthan
  8. East Madhya Pradesh
  9. West Madhya Pradesh
  10. Vidarbha
  11. Chhattisgarh
  12. Jharkhand
  13. Bihar
  14. Odisha
  15. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim
  16. Assam and Meghalaya
  17. Arunachal Pradesh
  18. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura
  19. Konkan and Goa
  20. Gujarat
  21. Madhya Maharashtra
  22. Kerala
  23. Coastal Karnataka
  24. North Interior Karnataka
  25. South Interior Karnataka

The IMD has also warned of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over:

Thunderstorms and strong winds expected

Apart from heavy rain, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across several states.

Wind speeds are likely to reach 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, in parts of:
  1. Delhi
  2. Haryana
  3. Rajasthan
  4. Uttar Pradesh
  5. Jharkhand
  6. Bihar
  7. West Bengal
  8. Odisha
  9. Karnataka
  10. Telangana
  11. Andhra Pradesh
  12. Assam
  13. Meghalaya
  14. Arunachal Pradesh
  15. Nagaland
  16. Manipur
  17. Mizoram
  18. Tripura

Some parts of Karnataka and Telangana may also experience thundersqualls, with wind speeds reaching 50-70 kmph.

Depression continues to influence weather

According to the IMD, the depression that developed over coastal Odisha and adjoining West Bengal has weakened slightly and is currently centred over south Jharkhand and adjoining north interior Odisha.

The weather system is expected to move northwestwards over the next 24 hours, increasing rainfall activity across central and eastern India.

The IMD also said the seasonal monsoon trough, an offshore trough along the west coast, and a Western Disturbance over the western Himalayas are contributing to the widespread rain.

Rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours

The IMD reported extremely heavy rainfall over:
  1. Saurashtra
  2. Konkan
  3. Madhya Maharashtra
  4. Odisha

Very heavy rainfall was also recorded in:
  1. Uttarakhand
  2. Chhattisgarh
  3. West Madhya Pradesh
  4. Uttar Pradesh

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall occurred in parts of:
  1. Himachal Pradesh
  2. East Rajasthan
  3. Jharkhand
  4. Assam
  5. Manipur
  6. West Bengal and Sikkim
  7. Vidarbha

IMD advises caution

The IMD has advised people living in areas under heavy rainfall warnings to remain alert for waterlogging, flash floods, landslides, reduced visibility and traffic disruptions. Residents have also been urged to follow updates issued by local authorities and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rain and thunderstorms.
