India's southwest monsoon is expected to gradually regain strength in the coming days, with weather conditions likely to improve across central and northern India. According to Skymet, after the country's overall rainfall deficit widened to 24%, monsoon could gather momentum in the last week of July, helping reduce the shortfall by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area over West Bengal and neighbouring regions has weakened, but it continues to influence weather across eastern and central India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Chhattisgarh and heavy to very heavy rain over Odisha on Friday and the following days.

IMD issues rain alerts for Odisha

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha for the next three days due to the impact of the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

According to IMD Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty, the weather system over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and north Odisha is expected to weaken gradually over the next 24 hours.

A yellow alert has been issued for Saturday in Sundargarh, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Bolangir districts.

Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on Sunday, while Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj may receive heavy showers on Monday. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across several other parts of the state till July 22.

Delhi weather tomorrow

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi for Saturday and Sunday, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by rain over the weekend. The rainfall is expected to bring temporary relief from humid conditions.

Kerala weather forecast

The weather office has issued a yellow alert for Saturday in four northern Kerala districts—Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.

The IMD has also predicted rain, thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places across Kerala between Friday and Sunday.

Skymet: Multiple weather systems active across India

Private forecaster Skymet Weather said the well-marked low-pressure area over north Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal has weakened into a low-pressure area.
