The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, gusty winds across several parts of the country over the coming days, with active weather conditions expected to persist till March 21. According to the latest All India Weather Summary, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Northeast India for the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall has been forecast over states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and the Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura region, particularly in the early part of the forecast period.

Ahmedabad weather today

After a dramatic spell of dust storms and rain, Ahmedabad is expected to witness improving weather conditions on March 20, though some instability may linger early in the day. Residual showers may occur within 24 hours following the previous day’s sudden weather activity. Chances of thunderstorms with strong winds remain, though intensity is expected to reduce compared to earlier conditions. Gusty winds may still reach 40–60 kmph, easing gradually.


Unseasonal rain in Mumbai

After days of intense heatwave conditions, Mumbai and nearby regions are set for a sudden weather shift, with unseasonal rain, thunderstorms and lightning likely to sweep across the city.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai, along with Thane and Palghar, will witness partly cloudy skies, light showers, thunderstorms and lightning activity until March 20. The weather agency has also issued alerts across several districts of Maharashtra, warning of continued unseasonal rain and thunderstorm activity till March 20, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching temperatures.

Rainfall in Delhi, Noida and Gurugram

The IMD has issued a yellow alert and warned of rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds in Delhi-NCR region for March 20. Weather officials said the cloud cover is likely to persist over Gurugram on Friday with possibility of light showers in isolated pockets. The IMD has issued a warning for Haryana on March 20, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph across several districts. The department has also warned of hailstorms at isolated places during this period.

Himachal Pradesh braces for more rain, snow

Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under widespread rain and snowfall triggered by an active western disturbance, with the IMD warning of more turbulent weather over the next 48 hours. Widespread rain and snowfall are expected to continue till March 20.

Indore rain

On March 20, many regions, including all districts of Indore and Ujjain divisions, are likely to experience thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour. There is also a possibility of isolated hailstorms in parts of northern and south-eastern Madhya Pradesh, for which a yellow alert has been issued.

Bihar rain update

The IMD has warned of partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers in Patna for today. "Generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers for March 21," the IMD said.

Jammu and Kashmir weather

The Meteorological Department has forecast continued unstable weather in Jammu and Kashmir until March 20, with intermittent rain and snowfall expected across several areas. “There is a possibility of brief spells of light rain or snow in higher reaches at isolated places till March 20,” the MeT Office said. It also warned of thunderstorms, gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph and isolated hailstorms, advising farmers to suspend agricultural activities during this period.

Thunderstorms, hailstorms in Bengal on March 20, 21

The weather office has forecast widespread thunderstorm activity across most districts of West Bengal on March 20 and 21, triggered by favourable weather conditions and strong moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal. Kolkata is also likely to receive rain, thunderstorms with strong gusty winds today.

The weather office has warned of hailstorm activity in western districts including Bankura, Purulia and Paschim Bardhaman on March 20, while northern districts such as Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri are likely to witness hailstorms on March 21.

In addition, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected to continue across several parts of the state till March 23, indicating a prolonged spell of unstable weather conditions.

Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh

20th March: Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall likely; thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.

21st March: Gradual reduction in intensity, but light to moderate rain/snow may continue at places.

Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand

20th March: Heavy rainfall/snowfall at isolated places; thundersquall activity (very strong gusts) possible.

21st March: Rainfall continues but intensity decreases; thunderstorms and gusty winds still possible.

Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan

20th March: Scattered light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–60 kmph).

21st March: Rain/thunderstorm activity continues mainly in East Uttar Pradesh and nearby areas, with reduced intensity elsewhere.

West Rajasthan

20th March: Isolated light to moderate rain with thunderstorms likely.

21st March: Mostly improving conditions, with limited or no significant rain.

East & Central India

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim

20th March: Widespread rain with thunderstorms; heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.

21st March: Continued widespread rain with thunderstorms; heavy rain possible in some areas.

Jharkhand

20th March: Thundersqualls (60–80 kmph gusts) with hailstorm activity at isolated places.

21st March: Rain and thunderstorms continue, intensity slightly reduced.

Gangetic West Bengal

20th March: Strong thunderstorms with thundersqualls and gusty winds.

21st March: Continued thunderstorm activity with gusty winds.

Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh

20th March: Scattered rain with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds; hail possible at isolated places.

21st March: Similar pattern continues but with slightly reduced intensity.

West India

Maharashtra (Madhya Maharashtra & Marathwada)
