According to the latest weather today forecast, Delhi, Mumbai, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam and several other states are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall during the week. In contrast, rainfall over west-central India and much of south Peninsular India is expected to remain comparatively subdued.

IMD weather alert: Heavy rain likely in several states this week

The IMD said active monsoon conditions are expected to persist over north, east and northeast India for the next six to seven days.

The weather department has forecast:

• Heavy rainfall in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh during different days this week.
• Intense rain over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with isolated places likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is expected to witness a more active phase of the monsoon.

• Thane may receive heavy showers on Wednesday and Thursday.

West Bengal weather: Heavy rain alert for north Bengal, thunderstorms in south Bengal

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over northern districts of West Bengal during the next two days.

Authorities have warned that continuous rainfall may trigger:

• Landslides in hilly regions.
• Flash floods in vulnerable low-lying areas.
• Localised flooding in urban pockets.

In south Bengal, heavy rainfall is likely between July 21 and July 23 in:

• North 24 Parganas

• Nadia
• Howrah

Most other districts, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, are expected to receive isolated spells of light to moderate rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are also likely in some areas.
