Weather today, July 19: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is set to continue across large parts of India on Sunday, July 19, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of extremely heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan, West Bengal and Sikkim.

The IMD has also forecast heavy rain across several parts of north, east, northeast, central and southern India, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected in many regions.

From Srinagar and Himachal Pradesh to Bihar, Rajasthan and Kerala, multiple states are likely to witness wet weather through the day. Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR remains under a yellow alert, with light rain expected but hot and humid conditions likely to continue.

IMD rain alert for July 19: States likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall

According to the IMD, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated places likely to witness extremely heavy rain.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over:

• Assam and Meghalaya
• Bihar
• East Uttar Pradesh
• Himachal Pradesh
• Uttarakhand

Heavy rainfall has also been forecast for:

• Arunachal Pradesh
• Chhattisgarh
• East Madhya Pradesh
• Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar region
• Jharkhand
• Kerala
• Coastal Karnataka
• Nagaland
• Manipur
• Mizoram
• Tripura
• Odisha
• West Uttar Pradesh

Thunderstorms and gusty winds likely in several states

Apart from heavy rain, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over several regions.

Strong winds and thunderstorms are likely across:

• Jammu and Kashmir
• Jharkhand
• Madhya Pradesh
• Central Maharashtra
• Marathwada
• North Interior Karnataka

Several other states are also expected to witness isolated thunderstorms and lightning during the day.

Delhi-NCR weather today: Yellow alert remains in place

For Delhi-NCR, the IMD has forecast light rainfall on Sunday, although residents are likely to continue experiencing hot and humid weather.

The weather office has issued a yellow alert for the national capital, advising people to remain cautious during changing weather conditions.

Rainfall activity over Delhi, Haryana and Punjab is expected to become more widespread over the next few days.

North India weather: Himachal, Uttarakhand, Srinagar region on alert

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over:

• Himachal Pradesh
• Uttarakhand
• East Uttar Pradesh

Heavy rain is also likely over:

• West Uttar Pradesh
• Jammu and Kashmir, including the Srinagar region

The IMD has further said:

• Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand through the coming week.
• Heavy rainfall is expected over Jammu and Kashmir between July 18 and July 21, and again on July 23.
• Himachal Pradesh is likely to witness heavy rain on July 19, July 22, and July 23-24.
• Uttarakhand is expected to receive heavy rainfall on July 19-20 and July 22-24.

The department has also warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rain at isolated places is likely over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on July 20 and 21, while Uttarakhand may witness extremely heavy rainfall on July 19 and 20.

Bihar, West Bengal and Northeast India weather

Eastern and northeastern states remain among the worst affected by the ongoing monsoon activity. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated places likely to witness extremely heavy rain.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over:

• Assam and Meghalaya
• Bihar

Heavy rainfall is forecast for:

• Jharkhand
• Odisha
• Arunachal Pradesh
• Nagaland
• Manipur
• Mizoram
• Tripura

The IMD has also indicated that rainfall activity will continue across these regions over the next several days.

Central and West India forecast

Heavy rainfall is expected over:

• Chhattisgarh
• East Madhya Pradesh

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, widespread rainfall is forecast over:

• Konkan and Goa
• Gujarat
• Central Maharashtra
• Marathwada
• Saurashtra and Kutch

South India weather: Kerala and Karnataka likely to receive heavy rain

Heavy rainfall is likely over:

• Kerala
• Coastal Karnataka

Rain is also expected over:

• Coastal Andhra Pradesh
• Telangana
• Rayalaseema
• North Interior Karnataka
• South Interior Karnataka
• Tamil Nadu
• Puducherry
• Karaikal

Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.

Strong surface winds are also expected over Karnataka and Telangana over the coming days.

Mumbai weather: Yellow alert after heavy evening showers

After witnessing a relatively dry spell earlier this week, Mumbai received heavy showers on Saturday evening, with several parts of the city recording more than 30 mm of rainfall in just two hours.

Following the sudden spell, the IMD upgraded its forecast and issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and neighbouring Thane, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places.

In its 5.30 pm nowcast, valid for three hours, the weather office said moderate spells of rain were very likely at isolated locations in Mumbai and Thane, advising residents to take necessary precautions.

The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall in Mumbai from July 19 to July 22, indicating that wet weather is likely to continue over the city during the next few days.

IMD's forecast for the coming days

The India Meteorological Department has said widespread rainfall activity is expected to continue across:

• The western Himalayan region
• East and northeast India
• Parts of central India
• The west coast

Heavy rainfall is likely to persist over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya, while Odisha, Chhattisgarh and parts of the southern peninsula are also expected to remain under active monsoon conditions over the next three to four days.

Residents in rain-hit areas have been advised to stay updated with the latest IMD advisories and avoid travelling through waterlogged or landslide-prone areas during periods of intense rainfall.
