Weather today (August 24): Delhi-NCR may get light rain; IMD warns of heavy rain and thunderstorms in Uttarakhand, Odisha, Telangana.
Monsoon activity remains strong across several parts of India on Monday, August 24, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rain in Delhi-NCR and heavy rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand, Odisha and Telangana. Odisha is likely to see particularly intense showers, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected in several regions.

Delhi-NCR weather today

Delhi-NCR is likely to remain under cloudy conditions with light rain or thundershowers at some places. Delhi, New Delhi, Noida and Gurugram may see intermittent showers during the day as monsoon activity continues over the region.

For Delhi, the weather outlook indicates partly cloudy conditions with isolated thunderstorms. Residents should therefore be prepared for sudden changes in weather, particularly if travelling or commuting during a rain spell.

Noida and Gurugram could also see similar conditions as the wider National Capital Region remains under the influence of the prevailing monsoon pattern. Short spells of rain may affect road traffic and visibility in parts of the NCR.

Uttarakhand weather today

Uttarakhand is among the northern states facing a heavier rain threat. The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in the state, along with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas.

The continuing rain also raises concerns in vulnerable hilly areas, where intense showers can increase the risk of localised flooding, landslides and disruption to road connectivity.

Odisha weather today

Odisha faces one of the strongest rain warnings for Monday.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Odisha, with the intense spell expected to continue over the coming days. The weather office has also forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of the state.

The warning comes as a low-pressure system has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. The system is contributing to increased rainfall activity over Odisha and neighbouring regions.

Telangana weather today

Telangana is also expected to receive heavy rain at isolated places on Monday. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of the state, with winds potentially becoming strong during thunderstorms.

Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana may therefore see sudden rain and thunderstorm activity during the day. People travelling outdoors should remain alert to rapidly changing conditions.

Rain expected across several other states

The wet spell is not restricted to these four regions. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places across parts of the Northeast, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and other areas.

Odisha is expected to remain among the areas with the highest rainfall risk, while rainfall activity is likely to continue across several parts of the country through the week.

Along the east coast, squally weather with winds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph is also expected over parts of the Bay of Bengal and along the West Bengal, Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coasts.

Weather today: What residents should watch for

For Delhi-NCR, the main concern is sudden rain and thunderstorms that could affect traffic and outdoor plans. In Uttarakhand, Odisha and Telangana, the heavier rainfall forecast means residents in vulnerable areas should remain particularly cautious and follow local weather advisories.

The IMD's forecast indicates that monsoon activity will remain active across several regions in the coming days, making local weather updates important for commuters, travellers and residents in areas prone to heavy rain.
