Rainfall likely in Delhi
Gurgaon, South Delhi, Faridabad and Noida are among the areas most likely to see rainfall on the night of April 6, 2026. According to the IMD, a yellow alert has been issued for Tuesday, April 7, with a forecast of rain and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph towards late evening and night, which is expected to bring the temperatures down again. "One or two spells of very light to light rain accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds speed 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph during forenoon to afternoon," the IMD said in its weather forecast for Tuesday. "Generally cloudy sky. very light to light rain accompanied with thunderstorm/ lightning and gusty winds speed 30-40 kmph during afternoon to evening," the forecast for Wednesday read.
“A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from April 7. Maximum temperatures may rise by around three degrees Celsius over the next two days, fall by two-four degrees on April 7 and 8, and rise by three-five degrees thereafter. Temperatures are likely to remain normal over the next two days and become appreciably to markedly below normal during the subsequent three days,” IMD stated.
Bihar, Tamil Nadu also on alert
In Northeast India, Arunachal Pradesh may see isolated heavy rainfall, while other northeastern states will get scattered light to moderate showers. Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal are likely to have isolated light to moderate rain with thunderstorms.In Central India, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, isolated light rain with thunderstorms is expected. Marathwada may see isolated showers. In South India, states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, and Coastal Andhra are likely to experience isolated light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, with the ghat areas possibly seeing heavy rainfall.
Weather update (April 7)
On 7 April, rainfall activity will increase in the northwest. Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may receive fairly widespread light to moderate rain and snow with thunderstorms. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan are expected to experience scattered to fairly widespread rain with thunderstorms and lightning, while West Rajasthan may see thundersquall activity.In Northeast India, Assam and Meghalaya may get isolated heavy rain, with other northeastern states seeing scattered showers. Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand are likely to receive isolated light to moderate rain with thunderstorms. In Gujarat, isolated rain and thunderstorms are expected. South India, including Tamil Nadu and Kerala, will continue to experience isolated rain with thunderstorms, though less intense than the previous day.
