According to the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that active monsoon conditions will continue across large parts of the country today and tomorrow, i.e. on July 5 and 6, with extremely heavy rainfall likely in parts of western and central India. Several states are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds may affect many regions.

Mumbai and adjoining districts remain among the most vulnerable areas, with the IMD maintaining a red alert for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The latest forecast also points to widespread monsoon activity over northern, eastern, northeastern and southern India through the coming days.

IMD Weather Alert for July 5-6

According to the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra. Heavy to very heavy rain is also expected over:

  • Madhya Pradesh
  • Vidarbha
  • Coastal Karnataka
  • Telangana
  • Gangetic West Bengal
  • Saurashtra and Kutch
  • South Interior Karnataka
  • East Rajasthan
Heavy rainfall is also likely over:

  • Bihar
  • Jharkhand
  • Odisha
  • Chhattisgarh
  • Uttarakhand
  • Himachal Pradesh
  • Assam and Meghalaya
  • Kerala and Mahe
  • Andaman and Nicobar Islands
  • Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura
  • Marathwada
  • North Interior Karnataka

Mumbai Weather Today and Tomorrow

Mumbai is expected to continue receiving intense monsoon showers through July 5 and 6. The IMD has extended its red alert for neighbouring Palghar district and warned of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Mumbai, Thane and Raigad.

The persistent rainfall could lead to:

  • Waterlogging in low-lying areas
  • Traffic disruptions
  • Reduced visibility
  • Localised flooding
Residents have been advised to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast

Delhi, Haryana and nearby regions are likely to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The IMD has forecast:

  • Thunderstorms with lightning
  • Gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph at isolated places
  • Intermittent rain spells across Delhi-NCR
Rainfall activity is expected to remain fairly widespread over the region during the coming week.

North India Weather: Rain to Intensify in Hill States

The monsoon is expected to stay active across the Himalayan region.

Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh

Heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand during July 6-10, while Himachal Pradesh may witness heavy rain on July 5 and again during July 8-9.

The IMD has also warned of:

  • Landslide-prone conditions in hilly areas
  • Flash flood risks in vulnerable locations
  • Thunderstorms and lightning across several districts

Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh

East Rajasthan is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated very heavy rainfall likely through the week.

West and East Uttar Pradesh are also likely to witness increasing rainfall activity between July 6 and July 10.

Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa Face Peak Monsoon Conditions

Western India remains the monsoon hotspot.

The IMD has forecast:

  • Extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat region through July 7
  • Extremely heavy rainfall over Konkan and Goa through July 7
  • Very heavy rainfall over Madhya Maharashtra
  • Heavy rain over Saurashtra and Kutch
Authorities are closely monitoring river levels and low-lying areas as rainfall intensity remains high.

Central India Forecast

Madhya Pradesh

East and West Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive widespread rainfall through July 10.

The IMD has warned that: "Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh on 04th July." Although the most intense spell was forecast earlier, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue across many districts over the next few days.

Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha

Both regions are likely to receive heavy rainfall, with some places expected to witness very heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds.

East India Weather Update

Heavy rain is expected across eastern India as the monsoon remains active.

Odisha

Odisha continues to remain under significant rainfall threat.

The IMD said: "Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over Odisha on 04th & 05th July." Several districts may continue to receive substantial rainfall through the weekend.

Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal

Heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

Moderate to intense lightning activity has also been highlighted for parts of eastern India.

Northeast India Forecast

Rainfall activity is expected to remain widespread across the Northeast.

Heavy rainfall is likely over:

  • Assam
  • Meghalaya
  • Arunachal Pradesh
  • Nagaland
  • Manipur
  • Mizoram
  • Tripura
Several areas could witness prolonged wet spells through July 10.

South India Weather Today and Tomorrow

Southern states will continue to experience active monsoon conditions.

Karnataka

Coastal Karnataka remains under a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning through July 10.

South Interior Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka are also expected to receive significant rainfall.

Kerala

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over Kerala and Mahe, with isolated very heavy rainfall likely during July 6-7.

Strong surface winds are also expected in some coastal areas.

Telangana

Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are likely across Telangana.

The IMD has additionally warned: "Thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) likely over Telangana on 4th July." While that warning was issued earlier, unsettled weather conditions continue across the state.
