Weather forecast for July 31, 2026: Check IMD rain alerts for Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala and more

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue across large parts of India on Friday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting active monsoon conditions over north, central, east, northeast, west and southern regions. Several states are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds have also been forecast in multiple areas. The weather department has advised that intense monsoon activity will persist over many parts of the country.

IMD issues rain alerts across India

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall across parts of north, central, east, northeast and western India, with isolated areas expected to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.


Heavy rain is likely over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh.

The weather department has also forecast heavy rainfall over Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha, the northeastern states and several parts of southern India.

Delhi-NCR weather

Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Friday.

The IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi from July 30 to August 4. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected in parts of the region.

North India forecast

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand between July 30 and August 4.

Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab are expected to receive widespread rainfall during this period. Rainfall is likely over west Uttar Pradesh from August 1 to 4 and east Uttar Pradesh from August 2 to 4.

Heavy rainfall is forecast over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Punjab during July 30 and 31, Uttarakhand on July 30, west Rajasthan on August 1, and east Rajasthan from July 30 to August 1.

Central India forecast

Active monsoon conditions are expected over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh.

Heavy rainfall is likely over west Madhya Pradesh from July 30 to August 1, east Madhya Pradesh on July 31, Vidarbha on July 31 and Chhattisgarh on July 30 and from August 2 to 4.

Very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over east Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on July 30. West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha may also witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated pockets likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall on July 30.

East India forecast

Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal are expected to witness widespread rainfall.

Rainfall is likely over Odisha on July 30 and from August 3 to 4, Jharkhand from August 1 to 4, Bihar from July 31 to August 4, and Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from July 30 to August 4.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over Jharkhand, Odisha and Bihar.

Very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during July 30 and 31 and from August 2 to 3.

Northeast India forecast

Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to experience widespread rainfall during the forecast period.

Heavy rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh from July 30 to August 2 and over Assam and Meghalaya during July 30 and 31.

West India forecast

Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Gujarat are likely to receive widespread rainfall over the coming days.

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected over Konkan and Goa from July 30 to August 4, Madhya Maharashtra from July 29 to 31, Marathwada on July 30 and Gujarat from July 30 to August 2.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Madhya Maharashtra on July 30 and the Gujarat region on July 31. Isolated areas in Gujarat may also receive extremely heavy rainfall.

South India forecast

Active monsoon conditions are expected to continue across southern India.

Fairly widespread rainfall is likely over coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep and north interior Karnataka.

Heavy rainfall is forecast over Kerala, coastal Karnataka, north and south interior Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Very heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala and Mahe from July 30 to August 1, coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka during July 30 and 31, and Telangana on July 30.

Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are also likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep.
