Her records have been sold in the tens of millions. She has won 15 Grammy awards apart from a host of other awards. But most of us have been pronouncing Adele's name wrong all the while.

The Grammy-winning hitmaker set the record straight on the true pronunciation of her name during a recent Q&A in celebration of her "I Drink Wine" music video, E! Online reported.

Turns out, her name is not to be pronounced "ah-dell", but "uh-dale". In short, her name is not pronounced as it's written.

While answering questions at the 'Happy Hour with Adele' Q&A session, the 34-year-old singer said that one of the women who asked her a question said her name "perfectly”

"Love that," Adele said. "She said my name perfectly!"

Adele said her own name for emphasis before answering more questions to celebrate the release of her "I Drink Wine" music video.

Born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins in London, the songwriter and singer achieved worldwide recognition after releasing her debut album, "19," in 2008.

Adele does not like to use her surname. "I could have never used my surname," she once told a YouTuber on why she uses only her mononym stage name. "Adele Adkins does not have the same ring as Adele."

She explained that her last name sounded "drab," though Adele still feels like her name even after finding success. "My mum still calls me it. My friends call me it," she said.
