A video circulating on X shows a street dog in Mumbai fearlessly blocking a Lamborghini, highlighting India's stray animal problem. Stray animals, particularly dogs, are responsible for a majority of road accidents. The Delhi High Court has addres...

In the video the dog can be seen blocking the way of the Lamborghini while ignoring other passing cars. When the Lamborghini driver tries to change lane, the dog blocks its way again. Finally, the car manages to get past the dog but the cannine chases it for some time.
Retweeting the same, one X user wrote, "Street dog in front of a Lamborghini. Only in Mumbai you see such things."
As per a 2024 report, stray animals are the cause of a majority of road accidents in India with stray dogs behind 62% of such incidents.
As per the Acko Accident Index, cows account for 29% of stray animal incidents while buffaloes are responsible for 4% of these incidents.
During a hearing a PIL, the court then noted, "The city has been taken over; nowhere in the world will you find a whole city taken over by dogs and monkeys. Today it is impossible to walk on the main streets. Try taking your pet out for a walk, and the strays will attack you."
"There is misplaced public sympathy and a notion of love for these animals. People who claim to be animal lovers are going about it in the wrong manner. Strays have taken over public parks. Can children go to play there? It is a genuine problem, and we cannot have this situation where children are bitten by stray animals and they cannot play in parks," the court observed.
The court emphasized the fundamental rights of all citizens, including those with disabilities. The court directed the Delhi chief secretary to convene a meeting with relevant authorities and experts to address the issue.
"Let there be a sterilised atmosphere in the hospitals. We cannot have dog bites and monkey bites in AIIMS...All the hospitals must be cleaned up. It is a vexed issue that will take time to resolve, but the chief secretary can implement a pilot project in some NDMC areas," the court noted.
