Indian teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has set a new record for the most sixes in Youth One-Day Internationals (ODIs), overtaking Unmukt Chand’s previous mark of 38. The milestone came during the second India U-19 vs Australia U-19 50-over match at Ian Healy Oval, Brisbane, on Wednesday.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi creates record in just 10 innings

The 14-year-old left-handed batter reached the landmark in only his 10th Youth ODI innings. He scored 70 runs from 68 balls before being dismissed by Australian captain Yash Deshmukh. In comparison, Chand had taken 21 matches to hit 38 sixes. Sooryavanshi’s tally now stands at 41 sixes and 540 runs in Youth ODIs, with 26% of his runs coming from boundaries.

Other Indian players on the list

Unmukt Chand, who earlier held the record, is followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hit 30 sixes in 27 matches between 2018 and 2020. Sooryavanshi’s achievement now places him at the top among Indians with the most sixes at this level.

Sooryavanshi has been in the spotlight for his performances across formats. He became the youngest player to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he scored the second-fastest century in tournament history and also became the youngest centurion.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Domestic cricket debut

The teenager also holds the record for the fastest Youth ODI hundred, scoring a century in 52 balls, surpassing Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam’s 53-ball effort in 2019. In the same innings, he struck 10 sixes, the most by an Indian in a Youth ODI. At 13 years and 188 days, he also became the youngest centurion in competitive cricket’s 170-year history.
