A three-year-old girl was left dangling outside a 12th-floor apartment in China after her head became trapped between the bars of a window safety grille. As the toddler clung to the metal bars high above the ground, neighbours, security guards and property management staff rushed to prevent her from falling, holding a stool beneath her body until firefighters arrived to carry out the rescue.

A video capturing the tense rescue operation has surfaced on social media and garnered more than 400,000 views, drawing attention to the efforts of those who tried to keep the child safe until emergency responders could reach her.

How did the toddler get trapped in the window grille?

According to The Beijing News and Jiupai News, as cited by Singapore-based news outlet 8world News, the incident occurred at around 7:48 am on October 17 at a residential complex in Zhangping city, China's Fujian province.

The girl had apparently climbed through the window's safety grille before her head became trapped between the metal bars. Photographs from the scene showed her gripping the grille with both hands while the rest of her body hung outside the apartment on the 12th floor.

After noticing the child in danger, a resident reportedly shared photographs in the residential complex's group chat to alert others and seek immediate help.

Neighbours and security staff race to save the child

With no family members inside the apartment, neighbours and security personnel quickly mobilised to help. Security guards and property management staff entered the flat directly below the girl's home to reach her from the lower-floor window.

Two rescuers leaned out of the window and held up a stool beneath the toddler to support her body and prevent her from hanging unsupported. Their efforts helped keep her from falling while they waited for firefighters to arrive.

The situation posed a significant challenge because the child was suspended high above the ground, and the rescuers could not directly reach the grille from their position.

According to reports, the girl's father was at work when the incident occurred, while her mother had stepped out to buy groceries after leaving the toddler asleep at home.

Firefighters free toddler from the 12th-floor grille

Firefighters subsequently arrived at the residential complex and forced open the door of the girl's apartment to reach her. They managed to free the toddler from the safety grille, bringing the tense rescue operation to a successful end.
