Watch: Sachin Tendulkar rolls back the years with this lovely lofted drive

He scored only 16 runs his side's score of 217/4, but Sachin Tendulkar's one shot during the India Legends innings on Saturday is going viral on social media.

It was a lofted drive Tendulkar played of former South Africa pacer Mkhaya Ntini, which for many Indain cricket fans seemed as if he was turning the clock back by nearly two decades.


Ntini, playing for South Africa Legends, pitched on in the slot to him in their opening match, and Tendulkar lofted him clean over mid-on for a boundary. Head still, free flow of the bat, and perfect balance.

Many of the his fans would count the lofted drive as their favourite shot from the Master Blaster, especially off the quicker bowlers, with the ball racing to the fence anywhere in the arc between long-on and long-off.

The shot, and the cheers that instantly erupted around the stadium as the ball left the bat, gave the illusion for a couple of seconds that this was some video from the past.

Skipper Tendulkar was dismissed by Ntini in the sixth over, but the India Legends, helped by a fine half-century from Stuart Binny and brilliant spin bowling spells from Rahul Sharma and Pragyan Ojha, defeated South africa Legends by 61 runs in the Road Safety World Series opener.

Binny played a blinder of an innings scoring, 82 runs off just 42 balls. He was supported by Yusuf Pathan, who scored a quickfire 35 runs off 15 balls, and Suresh Raina, who scored 33 runs in 22 balls. A struggling Yuvraj Singh could manage just 6 off 8 balls

The India Legends bowled well restricting South Africa Legends to 156/9. Rahul Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets , giving only 17 runs in his 4 overs. Munaf Patel and Pragyan Ojha both bagged 2 wickets each. Binny was adjudged player of the match.
