Watch: Pooja Bhatt joins Rahul Gandhi in Hyderabad for Bharat Jodo Yatra

Actor-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt on Wednesday became the first Bollywood celebrity to join the Bharat Jodo Yatra as she walked with Rahul Gandhi in Hyderabad for a brief while.

Pictures and videos showed Bhatt walking with Gandhi, engaged in a conversation, as he resumed his foot march from Balanagar after a night-halt at Bowenpally. People cheered her as she kept pace with the Congress leader.

Pooja Bhatt, daughter of veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, has been often vocal about various issues on social media.


Bhatt, 50, is an actor-director-producer. She made her debut as an actor age 17 in 1989 with "Daddy", a TV film directed by her father, before going on to star in movies like "Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin", "Sadak", "Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee" and "Zakhm.

She then ventured into production and direction with "Tammana", "Sur", "Paap" and "Holiday".

It was the 56th day of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge interacted with the Yatris.

"They too are walking 3500 km with Rahul Gandhi and are a source of great inspiration to our party cadres. The yatra is bringing about a silent revolution that will change the political landscape," the newly-elected Congress president said.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra began on September 7 from Kanyakumari and winded its way through Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, before reaching Telangana last week. It will cover a total distance of 375 kms in 19 Assembly and 7 Parliamentary constituencies in the state. From Telangana the yatra will enter Maharashtra.
