Watch: Man gets Google job after 10 years of trying, tells family about it

A digital designer who has been pursuing a job in Google since 2013 has shared a heartwarming video of the reactions of his mother and wife when they learn that he has finally nailed it.

Advin Roy Netto, now a product designer with Google, posted on Instagram the cheery video along with a long message to other aspirants urging them to keep trying and improvise.

"We generally see the good side of any story on social media. What we need to understand is the effort that went behind it, he wrote.


The video showed him walk up to the front yard of his home and break the news to his mother who first asked him why he was smiling.

He confirmed the happy news as his wife walked up to the camera, and she immediately replied, "I knew it."

That he did not have a fancy design degree did not deter the digital creator. "I don’t have control over that, but I have control over improving my portfolio and resume," he shared.

On his long journey to Google, Netto wrote: "Google has to process 70,000 to - 1 lakh applications weekly, and only approximately 144 people get the job. To get shortlisted, showcase your passion for what you do."

His advice for others trying to get their dream jobs: "Ask for help and help others too. Ask someone you know to review your portfolio, do a mock interview. Ask for referrals. Not everyone will have the time to respond, but don't get disappointed, keep asking. One or the other will help you."
