Drunk Hyderabad techie drives on railway tracks to ‘prove’ women drive better, shuts train ops for 45 mins; crashes car later

In Telangana, train services faced disruption as Vomika Soni, a software engineer, drove her car on railway tracks for 8 km, allegedly to prove her driving skills. The incident led to train diversions and a 45-minute suspension of operations.

The woman was driving a Kia Sonet along the tracks between Shankarpalli and Hyderabad.
Train services on a key Telangana route were thrown into chaos after a woman allegedly drove her car for over 8 km on active railway tracks, reportedly to prove that "no one drives better than a woman." The bizarre incident led to the suspension of train operations for 45 minutes and diversion of more than 15 trains.

The woman, identified as Vomika Soni, a software engineer from Lucknow currently residing in Shankarpalli, was reportedly heavily intoxicated. According to police, she had recently lost her job at an IT firm in Hyderabad.

A video shared by the NCMIndia Council For Men Affairs showed the woman driving a Kia Sonet along the tracks between Shankarpalli and Hyderabad. The council’s caption sarcastically hailed the act as a challenge to anyone doubting women's driving skills.

Railway officials were alerted after the car was seen moving dangerously along the tracks. Despite repeated attempts by railway staff to stop her, Soni accelerated and continued driving until her car crashed into a tree after exiting the tracks. The impact shattered the vehicle’s windows.

Witnesses and police reported that Soni emerged from the car with an iron rod and allegedly attacked officials trying to detain her. She also threw stones at bystanders. She was eventually taken into custody by the railway police and sent for medical evaluation.

The act drew mixed reactions online—some demanded strict legal action, even invoking anti-terrorism laws, while others expressed concern about her mental health, pointing to possible suicidal behavior linked to her job loss.

According to one X user, Shankarpally Inspector K Srinivas Goud has confirmed that the woman is in custody and the case is under investigation. Social media, meanwhile, has erupted in debate over her actions, with some calling for compassion and others for accountability.

"She needs to be charged under Terrorism related laws. Plain and simple. I think everyone will agree that she tried to terrorize helpless people on the trains," commented an X user.
