Watch: Autonomous snow blower clears 6,000 sq.ft. driveway during historic Winter Storm Fern

Tom Moloughney says Winter Storm Fern has hit New Jersey on Wednesday morning, prompting his autonomous snow blower from Yarbo Global to begin clearing his driveway. A video of the robot in action has since gone viral, reaching 4.8 million views on X.

Moloughney, who shared the video, said the snow blower was tasked with clearing his 6,000 sq.ft. driveway during the storm. “This is going to be a great test to see if this robot can handle a 6,000 sq.ft. driveway during a major winter storm. I’m inside sipping a coffee while it’s doing its job and so far so good!” he wrote.

The device completed the first pass of the driveway and returned to its charging dock. After about 1 hour and 15 minutes, it will be 80% charged and automatically resume clearing. Moloughney plans to run the snow blower for the duration of the storm and post a review video on @StateOfChargeEV later this week.

Winter Storm Fern blankets New Jersey with snow, sleet and ice

Winter Storm Fern swept through New Jersey beginning early Sunday, bringing a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain that complicated cleanup across much of the state. Northern areas saw about 4–5 inches of snow, including roughly 5 inches in Bergen County and over 4 inches in Essex and Union counties. Central regions recorded 3–6 inches, while South Jersey generally received 4–5 inches, with lower totals along coastal and airport locations where precipitation turned icy.

Forecasters warned that significant snow would remain on the ground after the storm, with northwestern and far northern parts expected to receive the heaviest accumulations of 12–18 inches, and isolated areas possibly topping 20 inches. Northeastern and central New Jersey were forecast to finish with roughly 8–12 inches, while snowfall totals were projected to drop closer to the coast and farther south, with the Jersey Shore and southern counties expected to see about 4–10 inches amid sleet and freezing rain.
