Indian Army on Friday paid rich tribute to canine warrior 'Zoom', who succumbed to gunshot injuries received during an encounter in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A solemn ceremony was held at the at Chinar War Memorial, Badami Bagh Cantonment, with Chinar Corps commander Lt Gen ADS Aujla and all ranks paying homage to Zoom.


Zoom, who was under treatment at Srinagar's Advance Field Veterinary Hospital since Monday after being hit by two bullets, passed away at 11.30 am on Thursday.

The assault dog incurred gunshot wounds during an operation at Tangpaw in Anantnag district, where he identified and attacked two heavily armed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists hiding in a house.

Zoom played a key role in not only identifying the precise location of the terrorists but also in disabling one of them. Despite being injured, the canine located the other hiding terrorist before fainting due to loss of blood.

Zoom, a Malinois or Belgian shepherd breed. was just over two years of age and was an invaluable member of the Chinar Warriors.

He was a veteran of multiple counter-terror operations, becoming known for his energy and courage. Zoom, was part of many active operations in south Kashmir. Army officials described him as a "highly trained, ferocious, and committed canine" who was trained to locate and bring down terrorists.
