"An avalanche occurred this morning in the Himalayan region but no damage was sustained to the Kedarnath temple," Ajendra Ajay, President, Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee told ANI.

Incessant rains had battered parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and north Uttar Pradesh for a few days during the last week.

Early reports said the giant glacier behind the Kedarnath temple was broken for the second time in two weeks. More details were awaited.

Earlier, on September 22, there was a massive avalanche in the catchment area of Chorabari Glacier at Kedarnath Dham.
