Volodymyr Zelenskyy, wife Olena Zelenska face flak for Vogue cover

Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Olena Zelenska featured in a photoshoot for Vogue, provoking people online to express strong opinion both for and against it.

The Ukrainian first couple posed for the photoshoot while the country was still in a war with Russia which has dragged on for more than 150 days and caused thousands of deaths and misery. Zelenskyy has otherwise won praise from supporters for staying in Kyiv since Russia attacked, and addressing people over video.

It started with the fashion magazine tweeting two days ago: "For Vogue’s special digital cover story, Zelenska and her husband Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about life in wartime, their marriage and shared history, and their dreams for Ukraine’s future."


Some responded saying Zelensky and Zelenska were doing photoshoots while the West was sending them billions of dollars in aid.

"You’re at war & you’ve got time for photo shoots?" asked Republican activist Scott Presler

But there were those who came out strongly in support of Zelenska, whom the magazine called " a key player, a frontline diplomat and the face of her nation’s emotional toll. "
