Volkswagen has introduced the much-awaited facelift of its popular mid-size SUV, the Taigun, for 2026. The updated model brings more than 40 new features across design, technology, comfort, performance and safety, aiming to make the Taigun even more appealing in India’s highly competitive compact SUV segment.

The facelift focuses on modernising the SUV’s looks while adding premium comfort and convenience features that were missing in the previous version.

Volkswagen Taigun facelift features: Design and exterior upgrades

The new Taigun gets a refreshed front end with a redesigned grille featuring a light band and a first-in-segment illuminated Volkswagen logo. The rear now sports stylish Infinity LED tail lamps with sequential turn indicators and welcome/goodbye animations.

Two new exterior colours have been added — Avocado Pearl and Steel Gray — taking the total colour options to nine. The overall design remains familiar but now looks more premium and contemporary.

Volkswagen Taigun facelift: Technology and infotainment upgrades

Inside, the cabin receives significant upgrades. A new 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster with four different themes replace the older setup. The system supports both wired and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with 15 different apps.

A major addition is the advanced voice assistant powered by Google Cloud Automotive AI. It responds to natural commands with wake-up phrases like “Hello Volkswagen”, “Hello VW”, or “Hello IDA”.

VW Taigun 2026: Comfort and convenience features

Comfort has been noticeably improved. The front seats are now six-way electrically adjustable and come with ventilation on higher variants. A panoramic sunroof with a special “summer function” helps keep the cabin cooler. The rear windshield wiper is now standard across all variants and includes a heating function for better visibility in rain or fog.

Volkswagen Taigun 2026: Performance and safety upgrades

The biggest mechanical change is the introduction of a new 8-speed automatic transmission for the 1.0-litre TSI engine (115 PS, 178 Nm). Volkswagen claims this gearbox improves fuel efficiency by 5.8% compared to the previous 6-speed unit and offers smoother shifts.

The 1.5-litre TSI variant (150 PS, 250 Nm) now gets rear disc brakes with red calipers for better stopping power and sportier looks. The SUV continues to offer a 5-star GNCAP safety rating with six airbags and over 40 safety features as standard.

Volkswagen Taigun: Ownership and after-sales package

Volkswagen has also enhanced the ownership experience with the “Forever Care” package, which includes a 4-year standard warranty (up to 1 lakh km), 4 years of roadside assistance, and three free labour services at 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year/15,000 km intervals.

The updated Taigun facelift is expected to strengthen Volkswagen’s position in the mid-size SUV segment, where it competes with models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
