Virender Sehwag's 'sarkari naukri' meme on Argentina captain Lionel Messi takes Internet by storm

Lionel Messi finally realised his ambition on Sunday, December 18, as Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties in a dramatic grand finale played at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Qatar. Argentina also ended a 36-year wait by becoming world champions for the third time, following 1978 and 1986.

Meanwhile, former India vice-captain Virender Sehwag who had also hailed both Messi and Argentina after their great triumph has put up a humorous message on Instagram addressed towards Messi.

Taking to his official Instagram account, Sehwag uploaded a morphed face of Messi wearing a police uniform and sarcastically stated that if Messi had been born in India, he would have gotten a government job soon after winning the World Cup.

Lionel Messi's fantasy ending

Lionel Messi succeeded in banishing the demons of the Maracana Stadium (2014) when Argentina had come agonisingly short against Germany in the final. He appeared confident and focused in possibly one of the most important matches of his life, and he made it count with goals and assists.

Argentina took the lead in the 23rd minute through Messi, and a brilliant goal from Ngel Di Mara in the 36th minute left France in shambles.

However, France's star striker Kylian Mbappe scored twice (including a penalty) in the closing 10 minutes of normal time as both sides were level at 2-2, and the game proceeded into extra time.

Messi restored Argentina's lead in the 108th minute, but his PSG colleague Mbappe was not done yet, successfully converting a penalty to draw the score 3-3 after extra time, and the world champion had to be decided on penalties.

During the penalties, though, it was goaltender Emi Martinez for Argentina who turned out to be the hero with a couple of vital saves as Argentina came out on top 4-2. Messi also received the Golden Ball Award.
