Virat Kohli’s spiritual turn? Jaap counter sighting sparks speculation post-Test retirement

Virat Kohli was recently spotted at the airport holding a Jaap counting machine, sparking a wave of curiosity and speculation among fans. The sight of the cricket star with the jaap counting device, commonly used for mantra recitations, has led many to wonder if Kohli is embracing a deeper spiritual path following his retirement from Test cricket. While nothing has been confirmed, his recent visit to Vrindavan and interactions with spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj suggest a possible shift in focus toward inner peace and mindfulness in this new phase of his life.

Just a day after he announced his retirement from Test cricket, Indian batting icon Virat Kohli travelled to Vrindavan with his wife, Anushka Sharma, to seek guidance from spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj.

The couple paid their respects at the Shri Hit Radha Keli Kunj Ashram, where photos of them with Premanand Maharaj swiftly went viral online.


The couple reached the ashram on Tuesday in a white vehicle. During their visit, they attentively listened to Premanand Maharaj’s discourses on spirituality and religion. A video shared by Bhajan Marg on social media captured moments of their interaction with the spiritual leader.

Upon departing the ashram, Kohli was spotted exiting from his car holding a japa (mantra) counting device, offered a quick wave to awaiting fans, and then quietly made his way into the airport.


Virat Kohli is gearing up to represent Royal Challengers Bangalore in their upcoming IPL 2025 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday. Earlier this week, on Monday, Kohli officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing down the curtain on an illustrious career in the game’s longest format. Over the course of 123 Test matches for India, he scored 9,230 runs at an impressive average of 46.85, which included 30 centuries. Kohli guided India to 40 victories in 68 Test matches as captain, making him the most successful Test skipper in the country’s history.
