After taking over as captain in 2013, Kohli led RCB to the playoffs four times. He stepped down at the end of 2021 and spoke openly about his decision.

For the first time since the 2016 season, RCB made the playoffs in the 2020 edition, and they also advanced to the knockout stages in the following two years. Kohli said that new guys came in and produced enthusiasm. The team made it to the playoffs three years in a row, from 2020 to 2022.
Kohli's decision to resign as RCB captain came after he decided to stand down as India’s T20 captain after the 2021 World Cup. He was subsequently removed as ODI captain and shortly after as Test captain.
Virat Kohli recently hit 186 against Australia in the fourth and final Test, ending a three-year drought for his 28th Test century.
