A video of a travel vlogger Deepak Samal of how he handled his two-year-old son’s small mistake during regular train journey has become one of the most-talked-about videos on the internet. In the video, Samal was travelling with his two-year-old son and during the journey, the toddler, in a playful mood, ended up scattering chips on the floor. Instead of cleaning the mess himself or relying on the train staff, Samal guided his toddler to pick up the chips and the video has sparked conversation on civic responsibility and parenting in India. The video shares a powerful message that civic sense is built through everyday action and shared responsibility for public spaces.

Man makes son pick up chips

The video was simple, honest and deeply relatable as it showed a man making his son pick up chips he scattered on the train. For a brief second, Deepak Samal thought about solving it quietly. “For a brief second, I had an easy option. I could have quietly cleaned it myself. It would take only a few seconds. No attention. No discomfort. But I paused. Because sometimes, convenience steals the lesson," Samal captioned the accompanying video.

Instead of bending down and finishing the task himself, he chose to slow down and explain. He asked his son who would clean up the things scattered on the floor. When the child responded with a confused look, Samal calmly showed him how to handle the situation properly.

"I explained, “This is not our home, but it is still our space. This train belongs to everyone. When we make a mess, someone else has to clean it". There was silence. Then slowly, he bent down and picked up the chips."

In the now-viral clip, the child can be seen slowly picking up the chips and placing them on a heap on the tray while he guides the child. "No scolding. No anger. Just a moment of understanding. And in that tiny act, a bigger lesson was planted. Cleanliness is not taught through instructions. Civic sense is not built through slogans. It is shaped in everyday moments," said Samal.
