However, Mumbai Police remain sceptical about his claims. An official from the crime branch stated on Friday that they believe Akhtar is still in India. According to their information, he had made several extortion calls in Punjab just last month.
Police Verify Video Authenticity
Authorities are currently examining the authenticity of the video. While it appears to feature Akhtar, police suspect it might have been recorded within the country.Akhtar is one of the absconding suspects in the murder case, along with Shubham Lonkar and Anmol Bishnoi, who is the brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Police believe Akhtar played a major role in planning the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was shot dead in Mumbai’s Bandra area on 12 October 2024.
Last Spotted in Uttarakhand
Police sources indicate that Akhtar was last seen in Nainital, Uttarakhand, along with Lonkar before the murder. Despite his claims of fleeing the country, investigators are determined to track him down. The case continues to be a high priority for law enforcement.Inputs from PTI
