"Never seen anything like this, like seeing a movie," Surrey resident William Chan told CBC News, who said he came across the crash while heading to Krispy Kreme, the donut shop nearby.
He said after spotting a damaged car in the middle of the intersection, he began looking for the other vehicle involved in the crash. "I was looking down and then I looked up and the [motorbike] was above — kind of crazy," he said.
According to police, the officers were called just before 3 pm PT to the 7100-block of Scott Road at 72nd Avenue and 120th Street after a collision between a motorcycle and a car.
Chan said he was shocked to see the motorcycle tangled around the traffic signal and decided to stay at the scene to watch how emergency crews would remove it. “Just to see how people are getting it down.… Going to be quite interesting,” he said.
Another bystander, Jevon Ryan, said he was unable to comprehend how the motorcycle ended up suspended above the intersection. “You’d think it would launch to the sidewalks, to the businesses but to perfectly get up there and wrap itself around.… It’s wow,” he added.
According to police, the crash led to the closure of Scott Road between 70th Avenue and 72nd Avenue as crews worked to clear debris and remove both the damaged vehicle and motorcycle from the roadway.
Delta Firefighters IAFF Local 1763 also said in a Facebook post that its firefighters responded to the incident, assisted with patient care and scene safety, and later helped remove the motorcycle from the traffic signal.
