Speaking to ANI from the confines of her car, Jaya Bachchan stated, "I choose not to comment on the Prime Minister's remarks. I hold the Chair in high regard. However, I'd like to emphasize that if one were to analyze all of PM Modi's speeches from 2014 until today, clarity would ensue, and your inquiries would find their answers. I urge you to watch his speeches."
The Prime Minister's statement, made on July 25, had likened the INDIA alliance to the historical British-run East India Company, and also mentioned the Indian Mujahideen, a terrorist organization, as examples of entities incorporating "India" in their names while pursuing different objectives.
Reacting to the PM's remarks, Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, condemned the association made between the opposition and terrorist organizations. He asserted that while the divide between the government and opposition had persisted for years, it was now evident that division existed even within the government itself. He expressed deep dismay at PM Modi's characterization of the INDIA alliance as directionless.
In response to the demand from the INDIA alliance, which called for a statement from the Prime Minister in both Houses of Parliament and discussions on the situation in Manipur, Modi's party dismissed the alliance as a coalition of self-serving, corrupt, and dynastic parties.
Amidst these developments, the opposition moved a no-confidence motion against the Modi government in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
Adding to the tensions, Manipur witnessed ethnic clashes on May 3, resulting in numerous casualties and thousands seeking refuge in relief camps. The Congress party demanded the imposition of President's Rule in the state and the immediate removal of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for his perceived failure in handling the law and order situation.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament became tumultuous as the opposition persistently sought a discussion on the situation in Manipur. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh's suspension for his conduct while demanding such a discussion further intensified the atmosphere.
