Viral video shows girl being thrown into drain after late-night party: Here's what you need to know before believing the hype online

A video is currently making the rounds on social media that could be disturbing to viewers. The clip shows a car parked near a drain, showing a girl being pulled out of a car and thrown into a drain. A man is then seen kicking her into the drain, the viral video shows. Following this, some users have shared the video claiming that the girl had been partying late into the night, and after the party, she was allegedly thrown into the drain in this condition. Some posts even referred to it as the “dark side” of “digital friendship.” This post is being shared as authentic with the caption, "After a night party, the girl was thrown into the drain."

Viral video: Girl thrown into drain?

A video is going viral on social media, which shows a girl being pulled out of a vehicle and thrown into a drain. One viral post suggested that the girl was first befriended on Instagram, then exploited, and finally thrown into the drain. The video is circulating widely on Instagram and other platforms with these claims. An archived version of one such post can be seen here.

But a fact-check by Aaj Tak and Quint found out that the video is not from any real-life incident. The searched keywords related to the viral video did not yield any credible news reports or posts confirming the viral incident. After using the image search option using Google Lens on the viral video, one search found that the video clip on a YouTube channel called MovieHub90, which can be seen at the 15:50 mark.

Viral video from Bollywood movie 'Mom'

There were some claims that the video clip was from the 2017 movie 'Mom'. To verify, the fact-check team searched for the movie and found the full film available on a YouTube channel called Bollywood Premium - and found that the viral clip was indeed from the 2 hour 26 min long movie.

How can this be verified?

Commenting on the viral video, one person noted that it was a scene from the Bollywood film Mom. The full film is available on YouTube on a channel called Bollywood Premium. Upon checking, the viral clip appears in the movie. Specifically, the scene occurs at 24:10 minutes into the approximately 2 hours and 46 minutes long film, where a man is seen kicking a girl into a drain. This confirms that the video being shared online with sensational claims is actually a cinematic scene, not a real incident.

Mom was released in 2017 and starred Sridevi in the lead role. The film revolves around a mother-daughter relationship. Sridevi’s character, Devaki, is the mother, while her daughter, Arya, is gang-raped during a party. Devaki then takes revenge on the perpetrators one by one.
