CJI Chandrachud, known for his witty remarks, mentioned the local tradition of an afternoon siesta, stating, "I have heard that this city goes to sleep between 1 pm and 4 pm. Thereafter, till 1 am, people enjoy the Racecourse." He added humorously that counting the number of tea kiosks and paan shops could continue endlessly.
The renowned fafda-jalebis, local diesel engines, submersible pumps, forging and casting industries, machine tool industries, as well as jewellery, patola, and bandhani, were highlighted by the CJI in his speech.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared this video of the CJI's speech on his social media, praising his commendable effort to connect with the people by speaking in Gujarati.
“The Hon'ble Chief Justice of our Supreme Court has understood Rajkot very well! This commendable effort of his to speak in Gujarati and connect with people….” PM Modi wrote in his caption.
The new district court building, a five-storey structure, houses courtrooms, judges' chambers, a video conferencing hall, public prosecutors' chambers, a canteen, a library, and a bar room. This development consolidates 39 courts previously scattered across the city into a centralised location, streamlining legal proceedings in Rajkot.
