According to the Hindu calendar, every month has two Chaturthi Tithis. Hence, devotees observe fasts twice in a month, during the waning and waxing phase of the moon and offer prayers to Lord Ganesha. The fast during the waning phase is known as Sankat Hara Chaturthi, and the one during the waxing phase is called Vinayaka Chaturthi. It is said that whoever keeps fast and prays to Ganesha is blessed with wisdom and patience.

Vinayaka Chaturthi starts at 3.24 am on February 23 and will end at 1.33 pm on February 24. The puja time for Vinayaka Chaturthi starts at 11: 26 AM and ends at 01: 43 PM on February 23.
The devotees cannot eat any food but can only consume Water, milk, fruit juice, etc. Along with fasting, the devotees also perform Panchopachara puja, chants chalisa and mantra with full devotion. Devotees are advised to wake up early in the morning and bathe before performing pujas.

· Prasad to be Ganesha.
· In the end, offer thamboolam consisting of a brown coconut broken into two, five types of fruits, paan and supari, bananas, haldi and kumkum, and at last comes dakshina. End the puja by singing the Ganesh Aarti with full devotion.
