Vikrant Massey brings ‘Musafir Cafe’ to real life: Two web series-inspired cafes with food, coffee, books and 20 artist residency rooms coming to Dharamshala, Uttarakhand by next year

Actor Vikrant Massey and his wife, Sheetal Thakur, are set to bring the fictional world of Musafir Cafe into real life with two cafés. The spaces are planned for Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and will draw inspiration from the OTT series, in which Vikrant Massey plays Chander.

According to a recent report by Mid Day, work on both projects has already started. The cafés are being designed to recreate the ambience of the space shown in the series while also offering facilities for artists to stay and work.

How The Musafir Cafe Concept Took Shape

The idea reportedly followed the response to the series, with viewers expressing interest in experiencing the world of Musafir Cafe beyond the screen.

Massey revealed that some fans had previously suggested opening a Musafir Cafe in the hills. However, cafés based on Divya Prakash Dubey’s book Musafir Cafe, which inspired the series, had already been launched after the book was published nearly a decade ago.

The actor said the upcoming project is focused on recreating the experience portrayed in the show rather than simply extending the brand.

Speaking about how the concept came together, Massey told the publication, “I was chatting with Divya, Sharanya Rajgopal [show creator], and Vijay Subramaniam [founder of Collective Artistes Network] about how it would be a great idea to recreate the on-screen experience of the show in real life.”

What Will The Musafir Cafes Have?

The two upcoming locations are being planned as spaces that go beyond food and beverages. Visitors will be able to enjoy coffee, food and books while spending time in a peaceful natural setting.

Around 20 rooms are also planned as artist residencies. These rooms will provide artists with a place to stay and work on their projects while taking a break from the city.

Massey hopes the cafés will offer visitors an escape from the “hustle and bustle and chaos of the city” and create an environment where artists can focus on their work.

The locations in Dharamshala and Uttarakhand also reflect the travel and introspective themes associated with the series.

When Will Vikrant Massey’s Musafir Cafes Open?

Construction on both projects is already underway, according to the report. Massey is aiming to open the cafés by “summer next year”.

Once operational, the spaces are expected to offer visitors opportunities to eat, read, relax and spend time amid nature. The artist residency rooms will additionally provide accommodation and dedicated spaces for creative work.

Vikrant Massey’s Upcoming Projects

Vikrant Massey has several projects lined up. He was recently seen in Pritam and Pedro and Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’ Romeo, which also stars Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri.

He has also joined Ajay Devgn’s Chauhaan. In addition, Massey is expected to return as Chander in the second season of Netflix’s Musafir Cafe.
