Vijay's Rs 500 crore film 'Jana Nayagan' release postponed reason: Why has the political drama landed in a trouble and is the new date out?
The release of actor-politician Vijay's movie 'Jana Nayagan' has been postponed, leaving the fans heartbroken. The Madras High Court had reserved its order on a petition seeking a direction to the CBFC to give a censor certificate under 'UA 16+' c...

According to an NDTV report, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has officially cleared Jana Nayagan for release in the UK. The BBFC cleared Jana Nayagan on January 6, 2026, awarding it a '15' rating for "strong bloody violence, injury detail, sexual violence references". The film's synopsis on the BBFC website reads, "In this action thriller, a man takes on corrupt officials and an arms dealer hell-bent on sowing chaos and division."
"The film deals with themes of terrorism, including depictions of terrorist attacks and their aftermath. Bereavement and grief are portrayed following deaths," the BBFC observed.

Why 'Jana Nayagan’ release has been postponed?
Vijay's political action drama 'Jana Nayagan’, directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, was scheduled to hit theatres on January 9. Distributors in Europe, Malaysia and the US first confirmed the postponement through posts on social media earlier in the day, following which the producers issued an official statement."Due to unforeseen circumstances, the initial release of Jana Nayagan, scheduled for 9 January 2026, has been postponed to a later date. We are currently awaiting further updates from the production team. Once the new release date is confirmed, official announcements will be shared through our authorized platforms. In the meantime, we Request all fans and supporters to remain patient and positive. Kindly refrain from spreading or engaging with unverified or misleading information from any unofficial sources," the producers said in a statement.
"Several arrangements are still in progress, and we humbly seek your understanding and cooperation. Let us stay united and approach this situation calmly and responsibly as we await a positive resolution," the statement read.

According to a report by Lets Cinema, Vijay’s final film has been postponed from its original release date due to pending censor clearance. The delay is reportedly linked to judicial proceedings connected to the certification process, with a final verdict expected only on January 9, the same day the film was set to hit theatres.
The postponement came after Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) failed to issue the required certificate ahead of the release. And as the certification status of the movie remains uncertain, the producers moved the Madras High Court seeking urgent relief in a bid to stick to January 9, the original release date. However, the court reserving its order has further complicated the film’s timeline.
The court also directed that Jana Nayagan be reviewed by a fresh committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain. Touted as Thalapathy Vijay's final film before his full-time political entry, the project now faces its biggest test as fans wait anxiously for a clear release date.
