The shorter format of the game have brought in more and more shots to cricket - some good, some just useful and some ungainly. As the overs reduced from 60 to 50 to 20, more batters invented new ones to beat the field

This week saw a new shot in town It was during a match played between South Australia and Tasmania in Brisbane. Left-handed batter Jake Lehmann put his front foot forward and went down on his left knee to deflect a ball from offspinner Jarrod Freeman over the keeper's head for four.

Now, that's a legit shot in limited overs cricket when the field spreads out after the powerplay overs. It looked a lot like the scoop shot, or more like the Dilscoop patented years ago by Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan, but there is a big difference - Lehmann used the back of the bat for playing it.


Now, that's rare. In fact, Cricket Australia while tweeting out the video said they would need a name for the shot.

A lot of suggestions tumbled out. Roofer, Boof Scoop, Leh-scoop, back stroke, back paddle, bamp ( back +ramp), and then the inevitable...

Fair point this, isn't it?

And then a user from India pointed out this isn't exactly new in tennis ball cricket.
