Renowned Bollywood actress and prominent politician Jaya Prada has been given a six-month prison sentence and a fine by a Chennai court following a guilty verdict on Friday. In connection with the case, a fine of Rs 5000 has been ordered, affecting not only Jaya but also her associates Ram Kumar and Raja Babu.

Jaya was the owner of a theater located in Chennai which was eventually closed down. Trouble arose when the theater employees raised complaints about their ESI (Employee State Insurance) payments not being forwarded as they should have been. They alleged that the deducted ESI funds were not transferred to the Government Insurance Corporation, causing distress.

Subsequently, the Labor Government Insurance Corporation took legal action against Jaya Prada and her associates. The case was filed at the Egmore Magistrate Court in Chennai. Reports suggest that Jaya herself admitted to the charges laid against her and assured the settlement of the long-pending dues.

She also filed an appeal for the case to be dismissed. The court, however, dismissed her appeal, resulting in the implementation of the penalty and prison term.

Throughout the late '70s, '80s, and early '90s, Jaya Prada was a prominent and influential actress in both the Hindi and Telugu film industries. Jaya rose to recognition in Bollywood with the 1979 film "Sargam" after first becoming well-known in South Indian cinema at a young age. Her filmography presents a stellar repertory which includes prominent titles like as "Kaamchor" (1982), "Tohfa" (1984), "Sharaabi" (1984), "Maqsad" (1984), "Sanjog" (1985), "Aakhree Raasta" (1986), "Elaan-E-Jung" (1989), "Aaj Ka Arjun" (1990), "Thanedaar" (1990), "Maa" (1991), and various Telugu films.

Jaya has earned recognition for her roles in both Telugu and Hindi cinema. Her filmography boasts an array of notable movies including Sargam, Ooriki Monagadu, Kaamchor, Kaviratna Kalidasa, Sagara Sangamam, Tohfa, Sharaabi, Maqsad, Sanjog, Aakhree Raasta, and Aaj Ka Arjun, among others.
